Test Rider, Steve Brown, G80 Matchless The first prototype BT-H PM1R magneto used Steve Brown's G80 Matchless as a test bed. Steve has covered many thousands of miles using the BT-H PM1R. His comments were that since fitting the new magneto the bike ran as it was supposed to. Starting became easy and reliable, the engine pulled strongly throughout the rev range and the carburation hiccough that he couldn't tune out before disappeared. With a production unit fitted he experimented with the spark plug gap.
He found that he could increase the recommended 0.035" gap to 0.080"
before starting * We pinched back the platform single BT-H magneto that Steve was testing and returned it after updating it to the latest specification. We were able to improve our performance and specification using lessons learned after action in the Manx Grand Prix. Steve has sent us a report that can be read here. Steve's Report
Jim Pickering, Royal Enfield Trials We were proud to have a Royal Enfield trials bike on our stand at The Classic Bike Show. This very nice machine is built and ridden by Jim Pickering. He initially used a pre-production prototype of our PM1R magneto on this bike. In his first club trial after fitting our magneto he was very impressed with the improved performance of his machine. In a mixed entry that included some more modern machines such as Montessa's etc, he only dropped 14 points to the winners 11. Jim reports that the engine seems to be almost unstoppable since the fitment of the new magneto. Jim has now updated his fixed ignition BT-H magneto to a BT-H PM1R model with electronic auto-advance. This has brought a further improvement in slow speed control. Click the button for an enlarged view.
Bernard Rodemark, Matchless G80 Trials. We have a few photographs of Bernard Rodemark's lovely Matchless. These were taken at Lemington Lakes in the Cotswolds; the start of the Sammy Miller Road Trial. Bernard uses a BTH Rexton magneto and made the following comment: "I read about the Rexton BTH
Magneto in the Trials & Motocross newspaper, it
